The decision by Pakatan Harapan to continue with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) should it take over the government after the 14th general election proves the GST is an effective and fair tax system, said Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
He said the GST introduced by the government is a fair tax system which has been practised in many countries for sustainable revenue collection.
"This GST helps reduce leakage, although during the early stage of implementation, there were problems," he told a media conference after launching the Johor government''s i-Move programme here today.
He said this in response to a statement by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar two days ago that GST would not be abloshed should the opposition pact take over the government.
Mohamed Khaled said the statement (by Nuru Izzah) did not surprise him as the opposition was never consistent in many things.
What they (opposition) want to do is to give the people a wrong perception of things, he said, adding that the opposition was against GST when it was first implemented.
