Thirteen express bus drivers tested positive for drugs in Ops Terminal that was conducted from June 18 till Sunday.

The bus drivers were among 2,989 examined at 28 main bus terminals nationwide, from the integrated efforts by the Royal Malaysia Police, Land Public Transport Commission and the Road Transport Department.

According to the National Anti-Drug Agency director (Enforcement and Security) Zainudin Abdullah, throughout the Aidilfitri operation, four were arrested in Kedah, three in Perak and one each in Selangor, Sabah, Perlis and Penang.

"The total showed an increase compared to six cases reported in 2015 and five in 2014," he said in a statement here.

Zainudin urged commercial vehicle companies to always ensure that their drivers were free from the influence of drugs by carrying out scheduled drug tests, and their drivers could also be referred to private clinics or health centres to do the tests.

He added, the integrated operation among various agencies should be continued to instil awareness among public vehicle operators to not employ workers who were involved in drugs while reducing the accident rate during the festive season.
