KUALA LUMPUR: Over 260 residents of Kampung Sungai Baru, Kampung Baru here, have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim seeking his intervention in not giving a postponement to the redevelopment project in their area but instead to help speed it up.
Their representative, Mohd Adam Abdul Aziz said the request followed media reports that the project would be delayed for a month or until such time to be determined so that renegotiations between residents and the relevant authorities could be held to resolve issues arising.
"We have waited for this development for over six years. The process of land acquisition was the last thing before realising our wish to upgrade our lives with more comfortable and good housing," he said at today's memorandum submission session.
The memorandum to urge action was handed over to the PM's political secretary Azman Abidin at the village.
However, Azman said the memorandum will be submitted the PM soon to be examined before any decision is made.
The planning for the redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru began in 2016, and received the consent of the majority of villagers, totalling 260 residents, but the project could not proceed due to 37 residents who dissented.
