Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said that no one should politicise the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) if they want the bipartisan panel to be able to find out the truth.
Speaking at the Dewan Rakyat today, Azalina said in the quest for truth, the successor to the Chairman and three other PAC members should be selected as soon as possible because the government itself did not intend to delay the matter further.
The Dewan Rakyat today approved the appointment of Rompin MP Datuk Hasan Arifin as the new PAC chairman, replacing Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
Azalina also said decisions by the PAC cannot be used by any political party and the probe must be continued in natural justice elements which includes rule against bias and the right to a fair hearing.
The PAC was probing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) before the probes were forced to be halted following the appointment of Nur Jazlan and three other PAC members into the Cabinet.
Nur Jazlan was appointed as Deputy Home Minister; Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican as Deputy Foreign Minister; Datuk Mas Ermieyanti Samsudin as Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister; and Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau as Science, Technology and Innovation Minister.
In August, Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said that the new PAC members can only be appointed once the nomination committee is reshuffled.
