The investigation into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) should resume immediately, says Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
Chairman of the Barisan Nasional BackBenchers Club (BNBBC) said this should be done as it is connected to the image and integrity of Barisan Nasional (BN) led by UMNO.
“The suspension of the investigation projects a negative image to the government. This investigation should be continued immediately as it has been reprimanded by various quarters especially members of the public.
“We do not want the people to see the investigation of1MDB by the Parliament to be stalled on reason that the positions within PAC was not been immediately replaced, however as a representative of BNBBC, I leave this matter to the Cabinet.
“I have informed the Cabinet, let’s see what develops next,” said Shahrir during a press conference held after opening the Johor Baharu division UMNO Youth delegates meeting in Johor Baharu.
Earlier, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said the appointment of the new Parliamentary Select Committee, PAC Chairman and members will be done during the Parliamentary session on October 19.
She said that the date coincided with the first day of the third sitting in the third term of the 13th Parliament proceedings.
She addedthat the date was set after taking into account several major factors including the time needed to propose the names needed to replace the current members of the Parliamentary Select Committee.
