Pahang flood victims doubled today

The number of flood victims in four districts in Pahang – Pekan, Maran, Rompin and Kuantan – has escalated to 11,721 people as of 8am today.
According to the Pahang flood monitoring operation centre, a total of 2,847 families from 78 villages have been placed at 62 flood relief centres in the state.
In Pekan, the number of victims has increased to 2,716 people from 579 families. They have been relocated to nine relief centres after the water level increased.
The number of victims also increased in Maran to 1,179 people from 281 families, with nine relief centres now open.
In Rompin, the total number of flood victims escalated to 3,615 from 958 families who are being placed in 10 relief centres.
In the state capital of Kuantan, there are 4,148 victims from 1,020 families placed in 33 relief centres.
In Jerantut, there are 63 people from 12 families placed in one relief centre so far.
Four main roads have been closed to traffic – Sg Charu bridge, KM28 Kuantan-Sg Lembing, KM72 Jalan Pekan-Segamat and KM36 Jalan Gambang in front of the Gambang Resort.
At Press time, the water level is still rising. The surrounding public needs to be prepared to be relocated.
The reported number of flood victims in the state yesterday morning was about 5,000-plus.
The floods, which are so far affecting the states of Pahang, Terengganu and Johor, have since claimed two young lives with both tragedies taking place in Terengganu.
