KUANTAN: The Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has consented to the formation of the Pahang state government involving Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Comptroller of the Pahang Sultan's Household Datuk Ahmad Khirrizal Ab Rahman Datuk Ahmad Khirrizal Ab Rahman said Tengku Hassanal also consented to appoint Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail who is the state BN chairman as Pahang Menteri Besar.

"The presentation of the instruments of appointment and swearing-in ceremony of the Menteri Besar will be held at 11am on Monday, Nov 28 at Balairung Seri, Istana Abu Bakar in Pekan," he said in a statement here today.

Ahmad Khirrizal also stated that Tengku Hassanal had granted an audience to the leaders of the political parties involved before making the decision.

The appointment of the Menteri Besar ended the political impasse in the state after the results of the 15th General Election (GE15) led to a hung state legislative assembly as no political parties obtained a simple majority of 22 seats to form a state government.

In the just-concluded general election, BN won 16 state seats, Perikatan Nasional (PN) secured 17 and PH won eight seats. In total there are 42 state assembly seats in Pahang.

Polling for the Tioman state seat was postponed following the death of PN candidate Md Yunus Ramli, 61, on GE15 polling day on Nov 19, believed to be due to a heart attack.

However, the results of the Tioman state assembly election will have no effect as no party will obtain a simple majority.
