Pakatan Rakyat today condemned the Egyptian army for overthrowing its president, Mohamed Morsi.
Speaking at a press conference at the Parliamentary lobby today, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he rejected the act because it ignores the voice of the people through its ‘fair and clean’ electoral process.
"Morsi has been elected by the people through a fair and transparent democratic system… but his victory has been seized cruelly," he told reporters.
He said any process of negotiation or protest against the president should be done properly and not through a coup.
Meanwhile, Pas vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar also criticized the action, inviting people around the world to condemn the act made against Morsi.
Egyptian military today has eliminated its first president which was democratically chosen by the people.
Morsi was toppled on Wednesday after a week of bloodshed that killed nearly 50 people as millions took to the streets to demand an end to his single year of rule.
Egypt's chief justice Adly Mansour was sworn in as the country's interim president.
