The Pakatan Rakyat Supreme Council who met Wednesday accepted the PKR proposal to nominate Datin Seri Wan Azizah Ismail as the new Selangor Menteri Besar.
PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that PAS and the DAP will discuss the matter at their Supreme Council meetings and make a decision soon.
"PAS and DAP respect the principle that the candidate for Selangor Menteri Besar must come from Keadilan (PKR)," he told a press conference after attending the meeting at parliament building here.
Also present were PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, PAS vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
The post of Selangor Menteri Besar is held by Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Asked about the possibility of Abdul Khalid refusing to relinquish his post, Anwar said: "Do not make assumptions. We are still discussing the matter."
About his future role, the opposition leader said he would step down as the Economic Adviser to the Selangor government.
"I do not have a role when Azizah becomes the Selangor Menteri Besar."
Anwar also said Wan Azizah is qualified to become Selangor Menteri Besar based on her position as the PKR president.
"We had discussed and decided on it. The consensus was for her (Azizah) being the party president. There are other qualified candidates including Azmin but the consensus was to propose Azizah."
On Monday, PKR nominated party president Wan Azizah as the candidate for the post of Selangor Menteri Besar.
