NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan military ruler Pervez Musharraf, aged 78, is battling for his life in a hospital.
He has been hospitalised for the last three weeks due to a complication of his ailment, identified as amyloidosis, the former president's family said on Friday.
"Going through a difficult stage where recovery is not possible and organs are malfunctioning. Pray for ease in his daily living," the family tweeted using Musharraf's Twitter handle.
The family said he is not on ventilator support.
The statement followed rumours on social media that the former president had passed away.
Musharraf seized political power in a military coup in 1999 and served as Pakistan's president from 2001 to 2008.
He left Pakistan in March 2016 for Dubai to seek medical treatment and has been outside the country since then.
