Pakistani woman held after 6kg drugs found in cushion coverlets

Customs officers have foiled an attempt to smuggle into the country 6.06 kg of Methamphetamine valued at RM1.15 million, KL International Airport (KLIA) Customs director Datuk Chik Omar Chik Lim said today.

He said the drugs were found hidden in 25 cushion coverlets in the luggage of a 50-year-old Pakistani woman on March 29 following a scan.

"An inspection revealed clear crystal white powder inside the cushion coverlets of various colours and patterns. A test confirmed that it was Methamphetamine," he told a news conference here.

Chik Omar said the woman, who had flown in from Karachi by a Pakistan Airlines flight, was being held under remand for seven days and the case was being investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He said this was the first time that an attempt had been made to smuggle in drugs in sewn cushion coverlets.

A check revealed that the woman, who had travelled alone, had entered the country thrice last year, he said.
