Palanivel to serve his last term as party president

MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said he will be serving his last term as president if reelected during the party upcoming election.
The MIC today made a U turn from its earlier decision to delay its elections to next year, by bringing it forward to this year.
"After this, I will step down. I am already 64," he said adding that the party will also be drafting amendments to its Constitution within two to three months after its elections.
Party president Palanivel said the elections will kick off in July this year due to the deadline given by the Registrar of Society (ROS).
"ROS has met me twice and and told me to complete the elections by Dec 31.
"Our 3900 branches will have their election from July 12 to Aug 4. After that, we will have the presidential nomination on Sept 1 and the presidential election on Sept 22.
"The election for divisions will be held at the end of September.
"The elections for the deputy president, vice presidents and the 23 central working committee members posts will be held at the end of November," he said at a packed press conference at the party's headquarters today.
Meanwhile on the ongoing squabble between the Perak state and MIC for the state speaker post, Deputy President Datuk S. Subramaniam said they will be meeting Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Kadir soon to discuss it.
