MIC President Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said he has yet to decide on who will fill the party's Honorary Treasurer post following the resignation of Datuk R. Ramanan, which was effective immediately.
Ramanan was appointed on December 16 in a restructuring of the main posts after party elections December last year.
He was said to have resigned following a High Court decision last Friday ordering him to return RM5.5 million to consultant psychiatrist, Tan Sri Dr M Mahadevan.
"I haven't decided on a suitable candidate for the post. I need to make a choice. Furthermore, the president has the absolute power to appoint the Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer," he said after visiting the Giant Panda Complex in Zoo Negara here, Monday.
Commenting on a number of MIC leaders lodging a report at the Registrar of Societies and sending a memorandum to the party regarding election irregularities, he said: "Everyone has the right to do so. But about 60 of the 88 candidates who contested for the central working committee posts have accepted and endorsed the result. So why are they still making it an issue."
