JOHOR BAHRU:A naval veteran in Kampung Cahaya Baru, Pasir Gudang, here, had a stroke last year which resulted in paralysis to half his body.

Roslin Hanapi, 59, who had served the Malaysian Royal Navy (RMN) for 18 years, also experienced memory lapses.

The father of five was now fully dependent on his wife, Norizan Shahari, 56, who took care of him and managed a stall at the same time to put food on the table.

“I am feeling healthy, I only miss walking like usual, I also pine to get out of the house and work to support the family,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after receiving aid from Permas State Assemblyman Datuk Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh who visited him at his house through the 2020 Anita South Rider Humanity Expedition Programme, today.

Also present were Malaysia Armed Forces (MAF) Johor branch Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) director Major Hairi Muhamad Radzi and Malaysian Anita Bikers Club president Anita Yusop.

Prior to this, Roslin, who retired from the navy in 2000, had worked at a factory for 13 years before being forced to quit due to the stroke.

Meanwhile, Norizan said they depended on her income of approximately RM500 monthly selling food items for breakfast, and contributions from their children.

She said her husband had yet to receive any assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) or Social Security Organisation (Socso) as they were still waiting for a health report from a government hospital.

She said that Roslin’s current hospital bed and wheelchair were also donated by a concerned party.

For donation, members of the public can contact Norizan at 013-7814843 or channel their contributions through CIMB account 150100117751525.
