KUALA LUMPUR:Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged parents to continue to pay attention to their children's education while the country is facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the free time needs to be utilised by reviewing lessons and reading books.
"Today is set by UNESCO as the World Education Day. I would like to take this opportunity to call on parents and children to make the most of their time.
"A year when COVID-19 hit us and the world, causing education to be affected, children do not go to school, and even if there is online learning, there is no connectivity. These are all known problems," he said in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday.
Apart from that, he said, students need to wisely divide their study time, especially in their free time.
"I just want to ask the children to pay attention to the textbooks available, set aside a few hours, morning, evening or night, by reading and reviewing lessons. Reading as much as possible. Free time cannot be returned," he added.
Anwar, however, admitted that no one could know how much longer is needed for the situation to return to normal and the school could operate as usual.
However, he said, the time available could at least be filled with activities to review lessons for the benefit of students.
"If we want to determine when the school opens, the situation (returns) to normal, it is uncertain. But do not waste this time.
"I urge parents and children to pay attention to education and ensure that children review lessons and read without getting tired," he said.
