KUALA LUMPUR: The government's move to collect taxes from the shadow economy which is estimated to contribute about 30 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is scheduled to be raised in the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to the Order Paper on the Parliament website, the matter will be raised by Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim (PN-Kuala Terengganu) to the Minister of Finance during the question and answer session.
There will also be a question to the Finance Minister by Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (PH-Tebrau) regarding the amount of Malaysian Ringgit that has been invested by GLC and GLIC companies in Malaysia and abroad.
Puah also wanted to know whether this investment is in line with the government's aspirations to strengthen the Malaysian equity market.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong) will ask the Health Minister to state the operational status, key targets and the latest achievements of the National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health since its launch in October last year.
After the question and answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will continue with the debate on the Supply Bill 2024 (Budget 2024) at the committee level for the relevant ministries.
The Dewan Rakyat sitting is for 32 days from last Oct 9 to Nov 30.
