The vice-head of the Youth wing of Parti Amanah Negara, Mohd Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin, was detained today to assist in the investigation on a seditious statement inciting the people to topple the government through street demonstrations last week.
Federal CID Director, Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said Mohd Shazni was detained under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 124C of the Penal Code for attempting to carry out activities that affected parliamentary democracy in the country.
"Mohd Shazni was detained at the grounds of the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters at 2.30pm and was taken to the Jinjang Police Station," he said in a statement, here today.
He said the application to remand the suspect would be made tomorrow.
Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had directed that action be taken against Mohd Shazni.
