PAS has decided to postpone the tabling of a Private Member's Bill at Dewan Rakyat this June which will enable the implementation of the Syariah Penal Code (ii) 1993 (hudud law) in Kelantan.
Its party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, in a press statement on Sunday, said the postponement was to make way for the formation of a technical committee between the federal government and the Kelantan state government.
“Therefore, the proposal to table the Private Member's Bill at the Dewan Rakyat next month will not go ahead.
"This is to pave way for the technical committee to summarize the proposal and to come up with the next action plan," said Hadi in the statement which was read by PAS Deputy President, Mohamad Sabu during a press conference at the party's headquarters on Sunday.
Mohamad said, even though PAS has decided to postpone the tabling of the bill, the party will continue to ensure that the Syariah Penal Code (ii) 1993 will be implemented one day.
"It is up to the technical committee which will be discussing with the state and federal government. This is a committee between a government and a government, not between a party and a party. So it must be serious," he said.
He also informed that the other members in Pakatan Rakyat have yet to be informed of this recent decision, and that they will know about it through media reports on Sunday.
