PAS willing to sit down with UMNO on Islamic administration - Hadi
PAS is willing to sit down with Umno on the issue of implementing an administration that is based on Islam in the country, said its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
"If they (Umno) say they are committed to implement an administration that is based on Islam, let us "muzakarah" (sit down and talk).
"PAS is ready to do this. You media, report this," he said in his closing speech at PAS's 59th Muktamar here today.
He added that such a muzakarah could result in better unity among Muslims in the country and resolve issues like the use of the word Allah and others that were splitting the "ummah" (faithful).
Hadi also told the delegates present that PAS would go ahead with implementing Hudud laws in Kelantan irrespective of whether its Pakatan partner DAP accepted it or not.
"That his (DAP chairman Karpal Singh's) right (to state the party's stand). It is also our right to continue our struggle (to implement Hudud laws). There is no agreement in Pakatan Rakyat (made up of DAP, PKR and PAS) that Hudud laws cannot be implemented, we have our own ideologies," he said.
The media today had reported Karpal Singh as saying that the DAP was firm in its stand that Hudud laws should not be implemented and that Malaysia should not be turned into an Islamic state.
On the new leadership line following PAS's polls at the muktamar, Hadi said it had good mix of ulama (religious scholars), professionals and activists, which augured well for the party.
