PAS's hudud bill 'un-Islamic', says Dr Mahathir
Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Bill is un-Islamic.
PAS's private member's Bill Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdictions) (Amendment) 2016 is "un-Islamic", said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"They are trying to do something that is unjust, cutting off a Muslim's hand when a non-Muslim gets two months jail," he was quoted saying by The Star Online.
"What they are proposing is un-Islamic," he added.
The former Prime Minister said this after officiating the launch of Perdana Global Peace Foundation's War Disaster Fund today.
On May 26, the Bill was moved up in the Parliament’s Order Paper but PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang asked for the debate on the bill to be postponed to the next Parliament sitting.
Datuk Seri Azalina Othman has earlier moved a motion to bring forward debate on the Bill which was initially listed as the last topic in the Order Paper on that day.
The proposal to amend the Federal Constitution to enable the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

The Syariah Criminal Code II 1993, better known as the hudud, qisas and takzir laws, was not implemented for more than 20 years due to legal constraints.
Besides the private Bill, the Kelantan government had also formed a state-level technical committee over a year ago and sent six representatives to sit on the national-level technical committee to study the implementation of hudud.
