Passengers fume over Rayani Air's bounced cheques

A group of 40 passengers who previously had asked for reimbursements from Rayani Air, claimed to have received bounced cheques from the airline.

Their representative, Nik Azida Nik Mahmood said, they each received a cheque to be cashed on June 30, but were left disappointed when the bank returned the cheques.

“After urging Rayani Air for a refund on May 24, the company gave a cheque that could only be cashed on June 30.

“When the day arrived, we went to the bank. Unfortunately, the bank contacted us to say that the cheque could not be used,” explained Nik Azida when contacted by Astro AWANI on Tuesday.

Nik Azida has lodged a police report on July 2 regarding the bounced cheques.

She is hoping the airline is able to refund their money as soon as possible.

The group is representing 200 passengers, involving reimbursements worth RM150,000.

On April 10, Rayani Air via its Facebook page promised to provide refunds to its passengers withing seven to 15 days, and it was then extended to 30 days.

On June 13, the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCA) revoked Rayani Air's Air Operator Certificate (AOC) after a full investigation into the administration and safety audit of the airline’s state of operations.

On Apr 11, DCA suspended the operations of Rayani Air for three months after the company suspended its flight operations without the approval of DCA on April 8.
