KUALA LUMPUR: No decision has been made by the UMNO Supreme Working Council (MKT) to embark on a new political reset by choosing any other party to be its ally.
UMNO Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, explained all that remains a possibility and it should look at the needs and current situation.
However, he stressed, all decisions and actions in such political reset must be decided by all and not a few specific parties.
"It must be agreed and not forced upon. Because UMNO is not a desperate party. We are not the ones peddling promises to beg for power.
"We will remain as we are. A good movement that will not stop giving benefits to the Malays and non-Malays in the country," he said when opening the simultaneous conference of UMNO Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri, here, on Saturday.
Mohamad said any party that wants to work with UMNO must believe in UMNO's ability to be the primary driver and not the secondary player who is just picked up to meet the quota or number of seats required.
"What is also strategic to UMNO, which is founded on the values and conditions favourable to UMNO, Malays and Islam as well as in the interest of Malaysia and its people, after receiving the support of UMNO grassroots, UMNO is willing to sit down and explore the way to resolve the political crisis of the country.
“No party or individual can tell or instruct UMNO on how and with whom we should negotiate to form a government.
"But for now, let UMNO choose to show its true strength as a political party, with its own advantages without sacrificing its strategic interests," he said.
