The Royal Malaysian Police can save over RM8 million a year by using online systems to supply traffic documents and manage court case exhibits, currently being developed in Langkawi.
Kedah Police chief Datuk Zamri Yahya today said the delivery of a document could be reduced from two months to five minutes using the traffic document supply system.
"Other than saving costs, it is also saves time. All interactions can be done via e-mail or the internet service. Easier, faster and more cost effective," he told reporters here after a briefing on the systems here.
He said the case exhibit management system using the bar code technology had been attempted since two weeks ago and had resulted in a 50 per cent in storage space reduction at the Langkawi District Police Headquarters.
Zamri said the system enabled detection of the exhibits for delivery to court or return to their owners, adding, another month was needed for familiaristion purposes and software upgrade, for full implementation.
