PDRM urged to step up intelligence
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) should step up its intelligence to curb street crimes, especially involving firearms, which is now on the rise, former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said today.
He said all departments in the police force should step up their intelligence and surveillance, especially in areas suspected to be used for illegal activities, and also to be firm in their actions.
He said the country's security at the moment was quite challenging with almost daily report on murder cases involving the use of firearms.
The situation, if not addressed, could undermine the country's peace and security, he added.
"The public don't feel safe because everyday they hear news of people being shot, murdered," he said when met at former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's Aidilfitri open house in Seri Kembangan near here.
Musa said street crimes, which were now on the rise, should be addressed immediately to restore the people's confidence in the police force in maintaining peace and order in the country.
"I hope the police force will further enhance its intelligence operations to identify those involved and take firm action to catch them and bring them to justice," he added.
