The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed 60 people have been infected with COVID-19 in the Pedas cluster, involving workers at a factory located in Negeri Sembilan since May 2.
According to its director-general, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the cluster was first detected when a factory worker was found to be unwell and had symptoms of fever, cough, cold, shortness of breath and headache on April 5.
The victim went for COVID-19 screening at a health clinic nearby five days later and was found positive on April 12.
"They comprise factory workers and their family members. Of this total, 60 cases were found positive, 286 negative and the test results of 440 others were still pending.
"The cluster's positive cases involved seven Malaysians and 53 non-citizens," he said at a press conference here on Friday.
Out of the total of non-citizens infected, 25 cases were Nepalese, Bangladeshis (18), Indonesian (8) and Myanmar (2).
However, he said the cause of the infection was still under investigation.
Dr Noor Hisham also advised workers who were experiencing any symptoms to seek treatment as soon as possible.
