The i-teams study shows us that city and national governments are still capable of amazing things.
The Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) has been recognised as one of the Top 20 Leading Government Innovation Teams around the Globe, according to a report released Monday.
The report by Bloomberg Philanthropies and Nesta, UK’s innovation foundation, published its findings under the publication i-team, describes some of the most compelling models and provides recommendations for leaders looking to create their own i-teams.
Philanthropist and Mayor of New York City from 2002-2013, Michael R. Bloomberg said more and more leaders around the world are willing to take risks and try new ideas, something that doesn’t often come east to government.
“The i-teams report highlights 20 of the world’s most effective government innovation efforts and describes what makes them work so well.
“It’s a great resource for local and national leaders eager to take new approaches to big challenges,” he said.
One of the report’s authors and deputy chief executive of Nesta, Philip Colligan said too often bureaucracies reject experimentation and change but the 20 i-teams offer a glimpse of a new type of experimental government.
“Governments have been responsible for some of the greatest innovations in modern history.
“The i-teams study shows us that city and national governments are still capable of amazing things when they create institutions that focus on the future,” he added.
The research team also found that the greatest concentration of i-teams is currently in Europe and North America while the number in Asia is rising rapidly.

• Barcelona Urban Lab (Barcelona, Spain)
• Behavioural Insights Team (UK)
