Penang lorry driver escapes second shooting attempt on his life

A lorry driver escaped with minor injuries early Friday after being fired at by two men on a motorcycle along Jalan Brown Pulau Tikus here.
Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the 3.20 am incident today was the second harrowing experience for the 28-year-old victim who sustained minor injuries to his left hand and thighs.
"The victim was driving a lorry at the time and continued to drive for about 600 metres towards Persiaran Midlands before getting help from members of the public.
"He is now being treated at Penang Hospital and is reported to be stable," he told reporters after the flag off of the 'Konvoi Kelab Motosikal SYM 1Malaysia', Friday.
Police found seven 9mm bullet shells at the scene, he said.
According to Abdul Rahim, the man had also escaped a close range shot near his home at Sungai Tiram, Bayan Lepas on Oct 12, last year.
He said police would investigate the case from every angle including the victim's background.
Meanwhile, the SYM motorcycle convoy was participated by 58 riding enthusiasts including 28 from Indonesia.
The group would visit tourist spots in the peninsula including Cameron Highlands, Melaka and Kuala Lumpur during the expedition covering 1,300 kilometres.
