Penang will need some time to gauge the impact of its Gradual Recovery Strategy on the local market, Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow said.
He said, the required time needed will depend on how traders and consumers can adapt themselves to ongoing economic challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The business circle needs use this opportunity to learn new way and methods of doing things to ensure their businesses remain strong and resilient,” he told reporters after a visit to the Gurney Paragon shopping complex here today.
Penang began opening various economic sectors today under Penang Gradual Recovery Strategy plan, which will run until May 13.
Chow, however, hoped that the opening of economic sectors would not dent Malaysia’s hard work so far to contain the pandemic.
“We do not want to see an increase in COVID-19 cases after reopening the economy,” he said, adding that the state’s local authorities will be monitoring the situation closely as well as decide on sectors fit to be reopened according to guidelines provided. - BERNAMA
