Penang Sky Cab: Lim Guan Eng surprised proposal rejected
He said the state government is still waiting for the report on why the project was rejected.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he was surprised by the Transport Ministry’s decision to reject the proposal to implement a cable car project known as Penang Sky Cab.
The project is to connect the island to Seberang Perai.
He said the rejection came as a surprise as the project’s developer Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) which is a government-linked company, had held discussions with the ministry before regarding the project.
Lim also called on Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai to be more rational in making decision as the state’s plans were for the benefit of the people.
He said the state government is still waiting for the report on why the project was rejected.
“Disappointed? OF course, because we were not informed at all,” he said when asked by reporters today.
The Penang Sky Cab did not get the green light from the Penang Port Authority (LPPP) for fear it might affect port activities.

Liow said this was decided by LPPP after the state government sought its views in respect of the proposal.
The Sky Cab is one of the projects under the RM27 billion Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP), in addition to the construction of a 6.5km stretch of undersea tunnel and three expressways.
