The DAP-led Penang government on Thursday decided that low-cost, medium-low cost houses and flats are eligible for exemption from assessment rates for 2016 and 2017.
State Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the state executive council had decided that flats measuring 700sqft or less as well as those with an original price of RM72,500 or below qualified for the exemption.
"Owners of the premises in the category may apply to the Penang City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) for an exemption if they are still receiving assessment payment notices," he told reporters here yesterday.
He said a total of 80,000 notices of assessment exemption had been issued to owners of eligible premises, including all flats in Block 115, Jalan Kedah.
Kon Yeow said eligible owners who had paid the assessment could fill a refund form available at MBPP and MPSP offices. -- Bernama
