Negeri Sembilan Yang Dipertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir today called on the people to be aware and truly understand news and information received from the print, electronic and social media.
He said the fast dissemination of news and information today meant that attention was given to every action of leaders and other individuals, and these quickly spread.
"As such, people should be smart in telling the difference between truth and lies, as well as between facts and views," he said.
The ruler said the public should assess the source of the information and look at the motive of the news which could be slanted to serve the interest of certain parties.
"This should be done before the public reacts or voice their stand which could influence and have an effect on the future of the nation," he said.
Tuanku Muhriz was speaking at the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with his 69th birthday at Istana Besar Seri Menanti, here.
Also present were Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani Almarhum Tengku Besar Mahmud, and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and wife, Datin Seri Raja Salbiah Tengku Nujumuddin.
Among the 104 recipients of state awards and medals at the ceremony were former Appeals Court judges Datuk Azhar Ma'ah and Datuk Mohd Hishamudin Md Yunus, and State Secretary Datuk Ali Mat Hassan who received the Darjah Seri Setia Negeri Sembilan Yang Amat Cemerlang (SSNS) which carries the title, 'Datuk Seri'.
