People should trust ESSCom's capability in fighting trans-border crime

Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) chief executive officer, Noor Alam Khan A. Wahid Khan urged the local community to have confidence in the agency's capability in tackling security issues like kidnapping and entry of illegals in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

He said ESSCom had and were thinking of and drawing up the best approaches and mechanisms to boost security in the area including its waters.

"One of the approaches taken is to beef up the placement of security forces on land and at sea, especially along high-risk routes that are suspected to be the target of criminals.

"ESSCom is also in the process of better equipping the security forces with sophisticated boats to boost security surveillance and control in the areas or waters at risk of kidnapping and smuggling activities by cross-border criminals.

"Up to this month, we have received more than 63 multi-purpose boats to be used by the security forces for that purpose."

He said this at ESSCom's 'Ihya Ramadan Programme with the Community' at the Kampung Inderason multi-purpose hall.

In this regard, Noor Alam said ESSCom needed the cooperation and support of all parties, including reporting on anything that could threaten harmony and security such as drug abuse and smuggling activities.
