KUCHING: The implementation of an e-commerce platform for people with disabilities (PwD) to market their products can help them continue to generate income, especially in facing the COVID-19 pandemic at this time.
Persatuan Anak Istimewa Sarawak (PERAIS) president Rapelson Richard Hamit said the announcement by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun yesterday regarding the e-commerce platform should be followed by several other steps.
"The ministry should also organise e-commerce courses and training for the disabled so that they can further increase their understanding and knowledge of e-commerce," he said in a statement here today.
He said monitoring by the ministry and efforts grom the PwD themselves were important to make the platform a success in creating successful PwD entrepreneurs.
"Economic and business grants or special allocations for PwD entrepreneurs should also be detailed to ensure that they can continue their business (online) and prevent small- and medium-scale entrepreneurs among the PwD from going bankrupt during this pandemic," he added.
