A man was charged in the magistrate's court here today with voluntarily causing hurt and criminal force against a former female companion in December last year.
Perak Chinese Chamber secretary Voon Chee Wai, 48, claimed trial to the two charges.
On the first charge, he allegedly caused hurt to the woman aged 42 in a room at Kinta Riverfront Hotel here, at 2.45am on Dec 18.
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
On the second charge, he allegedly used criminal force on the woman in an elevator at the same hotel at 3.40am, the same day.
The charge under Section 352 of the Penal Code carries a maximum three months' jail or RM1,000 fine, or both, on conviction.
Magistrate Siti Hanum Mohamad Sah set RM4,000 as bail in one surety and April 11 for remention.
The court also ordered the accused against harassing the alleged victim who is also a witness in the case.
Deputy public prosecutor Sally Chay Mei Ling appeared for the prosecution while Voon was represented by counsel Ranjit Singh Gill. -- Bernama
