Fifty officers from the Perak Health Department have been deployed to 100 Ramadan bazaars statewide to ensure that food sellers comply with all the food hygiene and safety regulations.

State Health Department director Datuk Dr Hassan Merican said they would not hesitate to take action against sellers who violated the regulations, including failure to wear apron and head cover.

"However, since the bazaars began operations fours days ago, no serious offence was reported," he told reporters after launching the state-level Ops Ramadan 2017 here today.

The annual operation is being mounted with the cooperation from local authorities, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry and State Inspectorate and Legal Unit.

In KUALA TERENGGANU, State Health Committee chairman Roslee Daud when launching the food hygiene and safety campaign at the Dataran Shahbandar Ramadan Bazaar said the Terengganu Health Department targeted 164 food samples to be collected from Ramadan bazaars statewide for monitoring and enforcement purposes.

He said a total of 385 personnel from the department and local authorities, would be deployed for the operation to ensure that food sold at Ramadan bazaars in the state are safe for consumption.

"We hope there will be no incident of food poisoning or anything like that, which will affect public health, this year," he said, adding that the enforcement would not only focus on Ramadan bazaar, but also on food premises, raw food suppliers and ice factories.
