The Perak Education Department has directed all district education offices and schools to be prepared to face the floods.
Its director, Mat Lazim Idris, said a special committee on floods had been set up in the districts and schools for immediate response during floods.
He said the department would also work with several government agencies.
"Currently, it is cloudy or rainy but so far the state has not been hit by floods," he told Bernama after visiting Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Datuk Kamaruddin in Batu Kurau near here.
Earlier, in his speech, Mat Lazim urged the teachers to be prepared for the challenges in 2017 to ensure the department's continuous quality and excellence.
Mat Lazim also urged the students to make adequate preparations for important examinations like the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia.
"Students must plan ahead to achieve excellent results and must also obey school rules and be disciplined," he said.
A total of 32,463 Year One pupils started their school session in 852 schools statewide this year. Of the total, 4,050 pupils are in Larut Matang and Selama. - BERNAMA
