IPOH: The Perak Youth Aspiration Centre (PASAK) with the co-operation of the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) will help about 700 workers of Silverstone Malaysia Bhd who will lose their jobs following the tyre's factory closure in June.
State Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya said the workers of the fully-owned subsidiary of Toyo Tire Corporation (TTC) have been participating in the Career Carnival, being held by PASAK in co-operation with NCIA, at the factory since Sunday.
''Of the 900 workers impacted, 200 have been recruited and on Sunday we will help the remaining 700 workers who are still looking for a job as several companies are looking for workers,'' he said.
He told reporters this during a working visit to Salutica Allied Solution Sdn Bhd, a factory that manufactures electronic devices at the Zarib Industrial Estate, Lahat here, today.
On February 17, Silverstone, in a statement, said about 1,000 workers of the tyre factory in Kamunting, Taiping were set to lose their jobs when the factory shuts down in June.
According to the statement, the decision to close the factory was made after taking into account its operational surrounding, its global strategy and production capacity.
In another development, Shahrul Zaman said the use of an additional close contact detection management system other than MySejahtera could help the industry reduce the risk of infection among employees, especially factory workers.
As such, he said the state government lauded the initiative of Salutica Allied Solution Sdn Bhd, a local company that had succeeded in manufacturing a special close contact detection device to monitor the movement of individuals if there were cases of COVID-19 infection among them.
