The police have confirmed receiving a report pertaining to alleged sexual abuse at a tahfiz school (school to study/memorise al-Quran) here, which is owned by a prominent independent speaker.
State police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Hanafi said to date, the police had recorded statements from 10 people, including students, complainants and school authorities.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the state-level 'Fly the Jalur Gemilang' programme here today.
In a WhatsApp message that went viral recently, some new students of the school were alleged to have been molested.
Meanwhile, Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) director, Datuk Mohd Yusop Husin said the department visited the school a few days ago and interviewed several students.
He said although the school was registered with the JAIPk, administrative matters including student intake was run entirely by the school because it was a private institution.
