KUALA LUMPUR: Pokok Asam State Assemblyman (ADUN) from DAP, Leow Thye Yih said he will not support any Menteri Besar candidate if he is from UMNO.
Leow took the stand following a statement by Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming who said the party was ready to work with any party including UMNO in forming a new state government for the welfare of the people in the state.
He said the fall of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in the state after nine months in power previously was caused by UMNO, when three PH ADUNs supported BN.
"Both events reminded me that I will not support any candidate from UMNO as the next Perak Menteri Besar," said Leow when contacted by Astro AWANI.
Therefore, he also urged other DAP assemblymen in the state to take the same stance.
"I call on my DAP comrades, especially Perak DAP assemblymen, to support my stand and subsequently reject any candidate from UMNO as the next Perak Menteri Besar," he said.
Earlier, Nga stated that the party was ready to work with any party that could help form a multi-racial, strong and stable government.
Nga even insisted that he was open to any constructive discussions.
It follows the statement of UMNO President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a press conference informing that UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) do not rule out the possibility of a new alignment in Perak in line with the political crisis that hit the state.
However, the UMNO president hoped that the government under the leadership of the last Menteri Besar can be maintained.
