GEORGETOWN: The perception that Seberang Perai is under-developed compared to Penang Island is factually inaccurate.
Penang Caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said while the notion may be true in the past due to the fact that the island was developed much earlier than Seberang Perai, however, it is no longer the case.
"If you were to compare the amount of industrial parks on the island and Seberang Perai, clearly there are more industrial parks in the mainland area," said Chow in an interview with Astro AWANI's Consider This in his office recently.
When asked why the perception still persisted even with the facts presented, Chow said some of the facts were not widely publicised.
"Other than that, there is always the island-centric mentality," he added.
Chow was interviewed ahead of the Penang elections scheduled on August 12.
The other five states that will also be going to the polls are Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
