Malay rights group Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa (Perkasa) will be having a press conference this afternoon to announce the position of its president Datuk Ibrahim Ali within the organisation.
The recent election results saw a ‘tsunami’ among a huge number of Chinese voters who swung to DAP.
The swing had given much impact toward the 13th general election (GE13) results, shattering Barisan Nasional’s (BN) hope of wresting back Selangor from Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
The swing also somehow ‘forced’ BN to study the requirements of the Chinese community in the country, as suggested by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Racial beliefs were totally rejected during GE13. This was proven by the defeat of two of Perkasa’s candidates, Ibrahim Ali and Datuk Zulkifli Noordin.
The current political landscape may also ‘force’ Perkasa to undergo a transformation for them to be accepted by the community.
This evening’s press conference is expected to determine Ibrahim’s position in Perkasa which could see him stepping down from being its president, considering that he is no longer well-accepted by the people.
Apart from that, the press conference is also expected to touch on current issues pertaining to post GE13.
Will Perkasa adapt itself to be more accepted by the general public or will they stand by their ground and fight for only the well-being of the Malays?
Both top leaders in the group have been known to issue racial-related statements.
Zulkifli during his days in Pas was reported to have criticised and issue statements offending the Indian community, for which he apologised later in April 2013.
In GE13, Ibrahim insisted to defend the Pasir Mas parliamentary seat despite not being listed by BN. He however lost to Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat’s son, Nik Abduh.
Nik Abduh obtained 33,431 votes while Ibrahim, obtained only 25,384 votes.
Zulkifli who contested under BN’s banner also lost in the contest to Khalid Samad from Pas who received 48,835 votes compared to Zulkifli who received 38,084 votes.
