The United States has been urged to reveal the identity of 'Malaysian Official 1' following the civil forfeiture complaint filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Perkasa Youth wing chief, Irwan Fahmi Ideris, said by doing so, it will help clear the rakyat's perceptions by the mystery surrounding the identities of the individuals linked to the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund.
“This call, addressed to the US will debunk all speculations hurled towards the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak with regards to the 1MDB debacle. We also urge the US to justify by explaining this matter for the rakyat to feel they are not cheated by money-laundering issues and other severe cases.
“We hope there is no cover-up, what Malaysian Official 1 has committed. As rakyat we deserve to know who cheat and got cheated,” said Irwan after the handing over of memorandum to the US Embassy here today.
The memorandum was received by US Embassy Security Officer, Brain Cumming.
Prior to this, Perkasa chief, Datuk Ibrahim Ali urged to the Malaysian Government to be transparent and truthful in conducting the 1MDB probe.
Ibrahim said the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s administration should not conceal the truth in the 1MDB probe.
On Wednesday, US Attorney-General, Loretta Lynch revealed the misappropriation of 1MDB fund.
Lynch said several individuals had allegedly transferred the fund to their personal accounts.
She hoped that the embezzled fund will be returned to Malaysia.
