PKR delegate proposes Anwar as party president
A PKR delegate has proposed that the party's de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim take over the post of president, based on his contribution and sacrifices for the party.
Selangor PKR secretary Amirudin Shari said the matter was also legitimate, according to the party's constitution.
"This is the best moment for Anwar to take over and lead the party as its key figure," said Amiruddin, who is also Batu Caves state assemblyman, when debating on the amendment to the PKR constitution at the Special PKR Congress here today.
Anwar, when met by reporters at the end of the congress, said he needed to wait for approval from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) for the new amended constitution before making any decision on the post of president.
Meanwhile, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said Anwar was free from legal obstacles and could be active in politics by holding the party president post.
"This is the sentiment of the delegates attending the congress today," he told reporters.
On the PKR's constitutional amendment which was passed today, Azmin said the party would send the amendment to the ROS next week and hoped to apply the new amendment in the party's election in March next year.
