The PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) toll rates are expected to rise by 5 percent if the government gives its green light, said PLUS Managing Director, Datuk Noorizah Abd Hamid.
She said according to the concession agreement, PLUS is allowed to increase its toll rate in 2016.
However, she said the decision would depend on the government as it has not made any announcement yet.
“According to the concession agreement, PLUS toll rates can be increased next year but the increase is not much, about 5 percent only, which is 0.68 sen per kilometre,” she said at a press conference held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Ayer Hitam, Jerlun, Kedah today.
“So, if a person travels for 100 kilometres, they will be paying an additional of 70 sen than before. It is not much,” she added.
She said the increase would be in line with the agreement which set an increase of five percent every three years from 2016 to 2038.
Noorizah said the increase is necessary to avoid burdening PLUS which did not raise its toll rates from 2005.
