Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today handed over the RM225.1 million Ganchong water treatment plant, which is a federal government project, to the Pahang state government.
The plant, which can supply 80 million litres of treated water daily, was handed over to the State Public Utilities and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Soffi Abd Razak who represented the state government.
Also present was East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John, whereby ECERDC is the implementor of the project, which is among the infrastructural projects for the people under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
Construction started in March 2014 with the aim of ensuring that continuous treated water could be supplied to benefit the 80,000 domestic users, businessmen and investors in Pekan.
The project is fully completed and was operational in March under the stipulated provisions and time frame.
Prior to this, the residents depended on the Peramu water treatment plant which can only supply 44 million litres of treated water daily, whilst the demand was expected to go up from time to time in the next 10 years.
