KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob visited Brickfields here last night to look at the preparations ahead of the Deepavali celebration.
The Prime Minister arrived at 9.20 pm and was greeted by MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan before spending about an hour visiting the Brickfields Deepavali Festival and a clothes shop in 'Little India'.
He also presented Deepavali donations to 10 orphans at the festival.
Popular among local residents, the festival features over 150 stalls and is being held over 10 days from Oct 14.
Ismail Sabri's presence attracted the attention of the public and some even took the opportunity to shake hands and take pictures with the country's premier.
Meanwhile, Saravanan said the prime minister's willingness to take time out of his busy schedule to visit Brickfields showed his concern for the welfare of the Indian community.
"I would like to thank the prime minister because even though he has just returned from Bera, Pahang, and has to go to Sabah tomorrow morning, he still managed to visit Little India.
"He also bought three traditional Indian dresses in blue, brown and white to wear when attending Deepavali open houses," he said.
