PMR 2013 sees an increase in overall results

There has been an increase in the overall performance of Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) results this year, with the percentage of all A scorers showing an increase of 0.41 per cent.

The total of 30,988 students scored ‘A’ in all the subjects this year as compared to last year where 30,474 students scored all As in their PMR.

However the number of students who passed with a minimum grade D have dropped to 1.38 per cent or 5,381 students.

The number of students who got a ‘F’ in all their subjects had increased from 241 last year to 307 this year.

Education director-general Datuk Khair Mohamad Yusof who announced the PMR result analysis said overall, there has been improvements in all subjects except Bahasa Melayu which saw a decline of 0.03 points in terms of subject average point (GPMP).

“The percentage of students who scored ‘A’ in the subject had declined 0.5 per cent where from 27.5 per cent in 2012, the number went down to 27.0 per cent this year. The percentage of candidates who managed to pass the minimum profiency level (Grade A, B, C and D) had declined 0.2 per cent, where from 94.4 per cent in 2012, it went down to 94.2 per cent,” he said.

He said subjects like Kemahiran Hidup Bersepadu (KHB), Ekonomi Rumah Tangga , KHB-Perdagangan dan Keusahawanan also showed a decline compared to the previous year.

Khair said although urban candidates scored better than rural candidates, the gap has narrowed to 0.01 points.

This is the last batch of students who sat for PMR as starting from next year, the exams will be replaced with school based assessment.
