PM's visit to Gaza described as unity visit

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's maiden visit to Gaza recently would provide pragmatic support and described as a unity visit by the people of Palestine.

Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMMF) Chief Executive Officer Khalek Awang said such visits not only promised a peaceful future, but also emphasised the importance of moderate practices in the leadership.

"The phrase unity visit is accurate because since 1948, millions of Palestinian Muslims and Christians were forced to leave their country and live in exile, but their hopes for peace still remain.

"Through the visit to Gaza, the Prime Minister is trying to tell the world the struggle of the Palestinian people which lasted several decades, as well as give them pragmatic support," he said in a statement here today.

He said if people worked collectively and have more concern on the injustice suffered by Palestinians, the initiative should result in a much awaited peace accord between Palestine and Israel.

Najib's visit to Gaza, the first for a Malaysian Prime Minister, was during his three-day working trip to Egypt which began on Monday before he attends the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
