AMONG the headlines for Friday, August 27, 2021, another 22,070 COVID-19 cases were recorded in Malaysia today, taking the total confirmed infections in the country to 1,662,913.
Selangor recorded 5,920 cases, Sabah 3,010, Sarawak 2,224, Kedah 2,072, Penang 1,829, Johor 1,809, Kuala Lumpur 1,068 and Kelantan 1,051.
Perak recorded 939 cases, Pahang 610, Melaka 589, Terengganu 488 and Negeri Sembilan 338.
Perlis recorded 76 cases, Putrajaya 39 and Labuan eight.
Also, US forces helping to evacuate Afghans desperate to flee Taliban rule braced for more attacks on Friday after an Islamic State suicide bomber killed 85 people, including 13 US soldiers outside the gates of Kabul airport.
Suicide bombers struck the crowded gates of Kabul airport with at least two explosions on Thursday, causing a bloodbath among civilians and US troops and effectively shutting down the Western airlift of Afghans desperate to flee.
