AMONG the headlines for Tuesday, 1st June, 2021, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz conceded today that the ongoing “total lockdown” could slow the country’s economic recovery.
Tengku Zafrul said the Treasury’s initial growth forecast could be revised following the third movement control order, which is expected to last at least six weeks to help public health authorities stem the rise of daily COVID-19 cases.
Also, Peru has become the country with the highest COVID-19 mortality per capita anywhere in the world after adjusting it’s death toll.
The country raised the count from 69,342 to 180,764 on the advice of a panel of health experts, which found there had been an undercount.
With the adjustment, Peru now has the highest coronavirus mortality per capita of any country, with 5,484 deaths per million inhabitants.
